WHAT ARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONTINUED AIRWORTHINESS (ICA) SUPPLEMENTS?

The Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM) is the principal document for transmitting ICA to maintainers and operators. In general, users should refer to it for all recommended and required maintenance. At times however, it can be necessary to amend or augment the maintenance instructions contained therein. This is sometimes accomplished by the issuance of an ICA Supplement. Supplements can be issued to cover important ICA-related updates needing timely distribution, recent improvements that introduce changes to the type design of new aircraft being delivered, or other factors. Most of the time, the decision is made to utilize the Supplementary process because the typical AMM revision schedule does not align with the need for a timely distribution of the data.

WHERE CAN I FIND/SEARCH FOR ICA SUPPLEMENTS?

Supplements can be found and searched for on the Service Information tab, which is located on the Technical Publications web page, after you have logged in. Additionally, the Service Information page is referenced from within each of the 1View Libraries, on the left side of the page, when the Library table of contents is visible. WHAT KIND OF INFORMATION CAN I EXPECT TO FIND IN AN ICA SUPPLEMENT?

Supplements traditionally include the same kind of data you will find in an AMM revision. This can include access updates, servicing instructions, removal/installation changes, post-maintenance checks, etc. ICAs can also transmit updates to scheduled inspection programs; new, changed, or revised inspection criteria; and/or intervals. Wiring Diagram Manual (WDM) and parts data can also be included in appendices of a Supplement.

ARE ICA SUPPLEMENTS ONLY LIMITED TO AMM DATA?

No. Because Supplements can sometimes be driven by changes to the aircraft type design, Textron Aviation understands that additional data might be necessary to properly maintain the airworthiness of an aircraft. That's why WDM data and even parts data can be included as appendices within the Supplement. It is important to be cognizant of this additional data, particularly when troubleshooting an aircraft or ordering replacement parts.

WHAT KIND OF INFORMATION IS NOT INCLUDED IN AN ICA SUPPLEMENT?

Supplements do not contain operation or flight data. Always refer to the approved Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM) and/or AFM Supplements. Changes to these documents will always have their own change and release process to accompany an update to type design. Supplements also do not traditionally contain weight and balance updates. Refer to the applicable Weight and Balance Manual and/or the AMM, Chapter 8, Leveling and Weighing for more data, as applicable to your model. FAA-approved Chapter 4 – Airworthiness Limitations, standalone Airworthiness Limitations Manuals (ALM), and Electrical Wiring Interconnect Systems (EWIS) Manual changes have their own approval/revision process, and therefore are unlikely to be transmitted through an ICA Supplement. And lastly, training and/or Operation Manual-type data is also not included in an ICA Supplement.

HOW DO I USE AN ICA SUPPLEMENT?

Supplements are designed to be formatted similarly to existing Technical Publications manuals. To the extent possible, Textron Aviation will use the industry standard ATA iSpec 2200 to lay out the data and even use the three-element ATA chapter assignment (Chapter-Section-Subject) applicable to that model's existing AMM, WDM, etc. In subsequent revisions, many Supplements will be incorporated into the applicable manuals. Thus, having the ATA already assigned for the changed and/or added sections, makes for a seamless inclusion at the next revision. Supplements are intended to be used the same way as the Technical Publications. Refer to the Introduction sections of each applicable manual for guidelines for use. Also, refer to the Airlines for America ATA iSpec 2200 for content arrangement standards.

CAN I CONSIDER THE PARTS DATA GIVEN IN AN ICA SUPPLEMENT APPROVED?

Yes. The timeliness of the next Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC) revision may not align with the schedule of the delivery of aircraft units that have type design changes included in them. Therefore, Supplements can contain updated major line replaceable unit (LRU) parts information, in the event replacement LRU parts are needed prior to the release of the updated IPC revision. The parts information will be included in an appendix section of the Supplement, as applicable, and should be considered valid for the defined serialization of the Supplement itself, unless otherwise noted in the appendix. The updated parts data will be incorporated in the next IPC revision. If any of the parts are approved as appropriate substitutes for existing parts, they will be defined as such in the IPC. Refer to the Introduction section of the IPC for description of substitution definitions. Also, refer to the Part Substitution List for additional parts data research.

DO ICA SUPPLEMENTS EVER GET INCORPORATED INTO THE MANUALS?

Most Supplements will be incorporated into the principal manuals at the time of their next revisions. To see which Supplements have been incorporated into the manuals, refer to the ICA Supplement List in the Introduction sections of the various manuals. As Textron Aviation moves to a more user-friendly experience, these ICA Supplement Lists will transition to a single list in the AMM, where the incorporation status into the various manuals will be defined.

WHEN ARE ICA SUPPLEMENTS NOT INCORPORATED INTO THE MANUALS?

Occasionally, Textron Aviation will use a Supplement to transmit data to operators that have data unique to that serial of that model. These are identified by a special 80000-series ICA Supplement numbering system. For example, ICA-680A-34-80001. Or, in the event the data has an export compliance (Export Administration Regulations - EAR or International Traffic in Arms Regulations - ITAR) restriction, the Supplement will be identified by a special 90000-series ICA Supplement numbering system. For example, ICA-680A-34-90001. However, these are very rare, and are not displayed on the Service Information page. Supplements in these two special scenarios are generally not incorporated into the Technical Publications. These should continue to be referenced through the ICA lifetime of the aircraft.

DO ICA SUPPLEMENTS EVER GET REVISED?

Yes. In the event a Supplement is revised, it will have a letter revision added to the end of the document number. For example, ICA-680A-34-00001A.

HOW DO I USE THE SERVICE INFORMATION TAB TO SEARCH FOR ICA SUPPLEMENTS?

Once on the Service Information page, please follow the steps below:

  1. Select your Make of aircraft.
  2. Select your Model of aircraft.

    NOTE: You can use the radio button for Jet or Turboprop/Piston to sort by type.

  3. (Optional) Select your Serial from the dropdown menu.
  4. To narrow the search to a specific system, type a subject keyword in the Title Description field.
  5. Under Publication Type, unselect all checkboxes except ICA.
  6. Click the Search Button. A list of ICAs will display, based on the search criteria selected.
  7. To open an ICA Supplement, click on the ICA Supplement document under the PUB NUMBER column heading. The number should appear in a blue box.
  8. You can save a Search for future reference.
    1. Click the Save this search?... link at the bottom of the page.
    2. Type a name in the Search Title box that displays.
    3. Click Save.
  9. To use this search again, do the following:
    1. See Search Criteria > Saved Searches.
    2. Select the named search you originally created from the dropdown menu.
    3. Click the Search button.
  10. You can manage saved Searches by selecting Preferences at the top, right screen.
